Anti-wrinkle injections are effective, versatile, and safe aesthetic treatments. So why are there myths floating around about them?
As with most things, myths tend to come from the unknown. If people don’t have the knowledge, often opinion fills in the blanks.
But with anti-wrinkle injections, there’s enough information and evidence to show why this treatment is loved by millions worldwide.
So, if you’re interested in anti-wrinkle treatments but want the facts instead of fiction, here are 5 anti-wrinkle myths we’ll bust.
-
Anti-wrinkle treatments are “only for old people”
Prevention is often better than cure, so you don’t need to wait until you’re old to get anti-wrinkle treatments.
Many people now get these treatments as a preventive measure to maintain skin elasticity and delay the onset of wrinkles. For others, they’re simply more conscious of specific areas, regardless of age.
The only general rule of thumb is that, more often than not, you don’t need anti-wrinkle injections below the age of 25, whilst the one legal definitive is that people, understandably, can’t get anti-wrinkle injections under 18 (do they even have wrinkles at that point?!)
2. That they will ‘”freeze your face completely”:
No, you will not become an emotionless ice queen/king.
A widespread myth is that anti-wrinkle treatments will leave you with a “completely frozen” or expressionless face.
Although we’re looking to reduce muscle movement, it’s only for a particular area to reduce the appearance of lines. When administered by a skilled professional (e.g., us), these treatments can create a natural-looking result, allowing for normal facial movement while reducing the appearance of wrinkles.
3. The results are “immediate and permanent”
It’s equally an issue on the other side of the coin, where some think their results will be immediate. They’re not.
While some treatment products may show effects quickly (like Botox), the full results can take several days to manifest, sometimes up to 14 days (this is why there can be no review or top-up in the first two weeks, as the product is still working its magic; it needs time).
Also, the results of most anti-wrinkle treatments are temporary, typically lasting anywhere from 3 to 4 months (sometimes even longer), depending on the specific treatment or product used.
This is definitely a good thing for first-timers, as it removes a big element of doubt. There’s no need to worry if it’s not for you; just give it time, and your lovely lines will reappear.
4. Anti-wrinkle treatments are “unsafe”
With anti-wrinkle injections having been around for decades (and the active ingredient centuries), there are so many statistics and research out there to prove it’s safe, both aesthetically and medically (so long as it’s administered professionally).
The National Library of Medicine says anti-wrinkle treatments are safe when they state, “treatment with botulinum toxin is widely viewed as safe, effective and largely devoid of serious side effects”. Another, Derma Institute, also says botox is safe, saying, “Botox is considered a very safe and effective treatment for both cosmetic and medical purposes when performed by a competent and trained professional.“
The biggest issue here is when people use unlicensed providers. PLEASE stop doing this! If it’s by far cheaper, there’s a reason, and it’s likely unlicensed, untested products, or they’re not properly qualified. Plus, remember, anti-wrinkle injections are prescribed medications only.
Always feel comfortable asking for what product they use, and what their experience is. It’s your face, after all.
5. That “anyone can administer anti-wrinkle treatments”
No. No. No. I can pick up a paintbrush, but this does not make me Picasso.
That’s an extreme example, but it gives an idea. First, your practitioner must be qualified to provide these treatments. However, most agree that this doesn’t go anywhere near far enough. Thankfully, new government legislation on aesthetics is coming to ensure a whole raft of requirements for practitioners.
It’s crucial to seek services from trained and licensed professionals. Proper knowledge of facial anatomy and techniques is essential for achieving safe and effective results. Put simply, those who have spent countless hours, months and years focusing on their education, experience, craft, and career, will be a better choice than the girl down the road who does it for some spare cash.
It’s not a treatment you want to go wrong.
It’s your face, so you want to know that the person trained in facial anatomy, advanced aesthetics, and client care is the right person, not the cheap person.
As you can tell, we’re big fans of anti-wrinkle injections when the treatment is performed safely by an educated and experienced aesthetics professional.
So, guess what? We are!
