Anti-wrinkle injections are an absolute favourite in aesthetics (and one we absolutely love doing, too).

You may have heard of the likes of Botox, which is a type of anti-wrinkle product (in the same way that Bocouture and Azzalure are).

Each has its benefits and affects each person differently, and you’ll find that some aesthetic practitioners prefer one over the other from their experience.

But the one thing they all have in common is that they’re absolutely amazing in working magic on our facial muscles.

Reducing muscle movement through its active ingredient, botulinum toxin, brings a ton of benefits.

But if you’re new to anti-wrinkle injections or just want to learn a little more, then here are 8 things you need to know.

1 . Anti-wrinkle injections reduce fine lines and wrinkles

Anti-wrinkle injections work by relaxing muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles, such as crow’s feet, forehead lines, and frown lines.

This helps create those smooth, youthful foreheads we’re all after!

2. All anti-wrinkle treatments require a prescription

Anti-wrinkle injections are super effective, but they need to be right for you.

Because of this, they’re only available by prescription. Thankfully, your aesthetics practitioner (i.e., us, of course) will have a link with a qualified prescriber, meaning they can ensure the right conversations happen so you are ready for treatment.

3. They prevent wrinkle formation

Depending on the treatment you get, there may be some pre-treatment procedures.

For example, if you’re getting lip filler done, you’ll have a topical numbing cream applied to the lips, which will take some time (up to 15 minutes, or even more should your body require it).

For most, it’ll just be about getting comfortable in this new clinic and the bed where we perform the treatment.

4. It's a quick treatment with no procedure

Anti-wrinkle treatments tend to be relatively quick ones.

Typically, your appointment is about 10 minutes and requires little to no downtime.

You’ll often be able to return to your daily activities immediately after the procedure (just be sure to follow your after-care instructions!)

5. They have long lasting, but temporary, effects

The effects of anti-wrinkle injections are temporary, lasting anywhere between 3–12 months, depending on the individual and treatment area.

This is genuinely a good thing, as it provides ultimate flexibility, especially for those who are unsure. You’re not making a permanent change (which most would love it to be!), but it’s long enough to get incredible value for money.

6. Anti-wrinkle injections are safe and effective

When administered by a qualified aesthetics professional (e.g. our very own Head Practitioner, Adele), anti-wrinkle treatments are considered safe and effective.

Whoever your practitioner is, ensure they’re educated, experienced, and insured.

7. There's minimal discomfort

Most clients experience only minor discomfort during the procedure.

The injections are typically performed with a very fine needle to reduce that (but it does depend on how you are with needles; they can be a little pinchy!)

8. The active ingredient has other applications

Beyond simply looking fabulous, anti-wrinkle injections have several other medical applications, such as treating migraines, excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), muscle spasms, and jaw pain.

Bear in mind these are medical treatments and must be administered by someone trained to do so.
